At Purple Sands we intertwine the ancient art of Yoga with the healing power of massage to create a wellness experience designed  to soothe, rejuvenate, and invigorate your body and mind.

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) therapy is an integrative deep tissue massage that merges the principles of Ayurveda and Yoga. It's a holistic and dynamic bodywork that fuses deep tissue massage techniques, Yoga-inspired assisted stretching, and synchronised breath-work within a single session. This distinctive approach aids in releasing physical and emotional blockages, encourages proper posture, betters breathing patterns, boosts energy, and imparts a deep feeling of openness and well-being across physical, mental, and emotional dimensions. It is a customised treatment that merges massage methods with yoga stretches to boost flexibility and relieve stress. This treatment helps regulate the central nervous system, promoting heightened energy or deep relaxation. Conducted on a futon mattress at ground level, the therapist can exert the required pressure using their body weight.  It also allows you to have more space to move.

Like yoga, the approach of each Ayurvedic Yoga Massage session is tailored to the individual's needs, varying from dynamic to soothing, or gentle and nurturing, with the goal of achieving balance and continuous energy flow in the body.  The massage involves slow, deep, and powerful strokes applied with both hands and feet, with the feet enabling a deeper and more extensive pressure via long, fluid strokes. A traditional Ayurvedic herb called Acorus Calamus.  This powder  contributes to the stimulation of the blood circulation and skin.  The additional friction that the powder provides supports deeper work without increased pressure.

In Ayurvedic tradition, it is understood that healing goes beyond the soft tissues, recognizing the profound link between the mind, emotions, and physical sensations. The primary goal is to ensure clients feel relaxed and secure, creating a comforting and supportive environment, stimulating the respiratory muscles, softening the tissues around the ribcage, abdomen, and pelvis, and heightening breathing awareness. The method progresses to gently ease muscle tension, ligaments, tendons, and fascia, while also enhancing joint mobility.

Why is Ayurvedic Yoga Massage so beneficial?

  • Ayurvedic Yoga Massage combines oil massage and movement, providing the full benefits of both techniques. Therapists carefully assess your needs and boundaries to ensure you are neither overexerted nor undertreated. By working within your limits and employing breathwork to engage the parasympathetic nervous system, even the deepest-seated tensions can be released. The practice of massaging, moving, and stretching tense muscles may initially cause some discomfort, resistance, or unease. However, the conscious touch and profound breathing encouraged by AYM train the nervous system to respond differently, aiding in the alleviation of chronic pain. This holistic approach to Ayurvedic Yoga Massage fosters a sustained sense of centeredness, reducing feelings of agitation or restlessness and enhancing mental clarity. It is designed to cultivate an awareness of one's body.
